Pros and Cons of a Rectangle Trampoline

When thinking about buying a trampoline you have to consider many factors form the size that you have in your backyard, to the age and size of your children. But something that often gets overlooked is the best shape to choose.  This is not just a cosmetic difference a round trampoline is much more stable and safe than a traditional rectangle one.

When it comes to shape you really you have to go for a round trampoline if you can get your hands on one.  They are much safer as the bounce rate doesn’t vary as much as a rectangle shaped on, on a rectangular tramp you will bounce much faster and higher in he corners than in the middle of the mat due to the different distances away from the springs.  On a round mat the space between the springs is evenly spread out around the circumference of the trampoline and reduces this high variance.

This difference in the bounce rate is dangerous because your children may not be expecting this difference and can over jump and land dangerously.  This is one of the key causes of injuries.

Another point in favour of the round trampoline is the stability of the shape. Due too the elongated nature of a rectangle they are not as stable as a circle (well not when you are jumping up and down on it anyway!!).  The round trampoline distributes the weight of the people on the trampoline more evenly and the trampoline is a lot less likely to tip over.  If you have a heavier person jumping on the mat  and they take a big jump on only one end of the trampoline it is highly likely to tip over.

Something that you should always consider with any toys for your children is the safety equipment.  And whilst you can get ladders and spring safety pads for a rectangle trampolines they are very difficult to add a safety net to0.  And I would never recommend that anyone buy their children a trampoline that came without a safety net.

No matter what trampoline you purchase please consider the safety of your children.  Because when done correctly and with the right equipment it is a fantastic toy and piece of exercise equipment that will get your children outside.

Buying a Rectangle Trampoline

rampolines are commonly used for fitness training and recreational purposes. Through the years, manufacturers have come up with several types of this equipment that will cater to these applications. In buying trampolines, there are several things to consider like the purpose for buying; budgetary constraints; available space for the equipment; size and shape of trampoline. Choosing a trampoline can be daunting if you do not know what product features to look for. This article focuses on some guidelines in buying rectangle trampolines.

In general, trampolines have four main parts: frame, frame pads, mat and springs. The frame functions like the body’s skeletal system. It outlines the shape and provides support to the trampoline. Obviously, rectangle trampolines are rectangular. Frame pads provide protection for the frame and for the trampoline user. The pads serve as protective covering for the frame and also as shock-absorbers for users when they accidentally crash into the frame. The mat provides the jumping area. Mats vary in length and width, depending on the sizes of the rectangle trampolines. Springs enable the users to bounce off the trampoline. In purchasing rectangle trampolines or any type of trampoline, these parts should be examined closely.

A sturdy frame is one feature of a good quality trampoline. Frames should not flex during set-up and usage. Durable frames are thick. Rectangle trampolines for competition or training have frames with thickness equal to 3.0mm while rectangle trampolines for recreation have a 2.0mm to 2.5mm thickness.

Spring count and spring coil thickness have everything to do with the bounce responsiveness. In general, the bounce-off height in rectangle trampolines is higher compared to other types. This is due to the positioning of the springs in this particular type of trampoline. The springs enable the user to bounce off the trampoline not the elasticity of the mat. Thus in buying rectangle trampolines, consider the thickness of the coil and the spring count. Remember that the greater the coil thickness and spring count, the better the bounce responsiveness.

Mats and frame pads can be constructed using different materials. It is important to look at the quality of the fabric used. For mats, the stitching and type of material should be checked. Keep in mind that mats should withstand an adult’s weight. Take note of the maximum and minimum weight limits of the trampoline. For frame pads, thickness and width dimensions should be checked. As mentioned in the second paragraph, it should be able to protect the frame and the user of the trampoline.

To be more familiar with trampoline types and specifications, talk to dealers, vendors, and storeowners of trampoline equipment. Scan magazines and check internet resources. Most websites about trampolines indicate product specifications and include photos of the equipment. Some give out tips in choosing a trampoline. In making any purchase, an informed decision can be made after doing research. In end, the best trampoline is the one that suits your requirements.

Smallest trampoline/rebounder that bounces the highest?

I’m a photographer and I’m looking for a small trampoline so I can take pictures of people in the air in different locations.

I couldn’t not care less about health benefits of the trampoline and do not want an enclosure. It has to be portable and provide the ability to jump as high as possible. Any suggestions?

The Bellicon Rebounder seems pretty good but too darn expensive. Do rectangle trampolines bounce higher? I’m hoping to pay less than 0.

Cheers,
